The Question That Drives My Writing

“The question that drives my writing” is quite a bold claim to make. Yet, it’s true — I focus primarily on this question when I’m writing:

When your whole world is technology, how do you avoid losing your humanity?

Humanity is interesting, of course — we all have our own motivations and fears — but I find it especially interesting how quick we are to divest ourselves of it.

Just look at the rise of AI; as AI becomes better at thinking for us, we’re happy to let it. Isn’t that strange? Don’t we suspect there might be consequences for that decision?

I find it truly fascinating how technology and humanity intertwine; at what point does someone stop being human and become technology? Is there ever a ghost in the shell?

I’m always left with more questions than answers, which is exactly what I seek to explore in my works. There’s never a solid, double-underlined answer — that’s not true to real life, anyways. It’s always just a musing, a take on a theory. A story told a hundred times over, a hundred times differently.

There’s a whole host of media that explores this topic, so I’d like to note that I’m hardly unique or special for this particular take. But, it’s what captivatees me, so it’s what I write.

Simple and difficult as that.
